Social Annotation, Open Pedagogy, and OER (hosted by Hypothesis)
Interested in teaching through freely available online materials and Open Educational Resources (OER)? Open pedagogical practices invite students to learn collaboratively and even to become knowledge creators in their own right, all while lowering textbook and material costs which provide barriers to learning. Using Hypothesis social annotation over free, open access, and OER materials encourages more authentic and community-driven formative assessment than publisher banks and traditional homework activities. This workshop prepares faculty to build Hypothesis assignments using publicly-available learning materials and support students in the collaborative modification of OER texts.
