What is it?
Gradescope is an online grading platform that helps make grading faster, more consistent, and fairer.
Why use it?
Pomona and HMC have an institutional licenses for Gradescope, which means faculty and students can sign up for accounts for free. Faculty also have access to all premium features in Gradescope including flexible rubrics, autograding of programming assignments, grouping similar answers, and integration with Sakai. It also provides a plethora of statistics on your student’s grades. This is helpful in determining what topics students have the most difficulty with, and identifying why students may have gotten certain questions wrong.
Use Case Example
Jo Hardin, a professor in the department of Math and Statistics, thoroughly explains her use of Gradescope throughout the 2020-2021 school year. She demonstrates how to link Gradescope to Sakai, create a new assignment, and comment and edit on students’ answers. She notes Gradescope has allowed for efficient and consistent grading, especially since students can match pages to specific questions and rubric items can be altered for all students.
