We are currently in the process of vetting academic video management and streaming services to replace Video 47. We previously conducted a faculty survey and reported on it in our Video 47 Survey Results and Next Steps blog post. Taking faculty feedback into account, we hope to have a replacement tool selected and announced soon. Video 47 Replacement FAQs
Will we be able to upload content ourselves?
Yes, any service we choose will allow faculty the ability to upload their content. We will find a system that will also do work behind the scenes to make sure it can stream the content to our students on the devices they choose.
Will the new tool be integrated into Sakai?
Yes, any streaming service we select will be fully integrated into Sakai.
Will ITS provide training on how to use this service?
Once a new streaming service is in place, ITS will provide a number of workshops.
What will happen to the data currently on Video 47?
If you have videos on Video 47, we will return the videos to you before decommissioning the system.
Will students be able to easily access our videos, or will there be a navigation learning curve?
Because the streaming service will be integrated into your class in Sakai, your students will be able to access any playlist or video you give them permission to there.
Will we be able to share playlists with other faculty or access theirs somehow?
Any streaming service we select will keep playlists and videos private so they are not shareable with other faculty.
Will the new tool have accessibility features, such as keyboard accessibility, closed captioning, downloadable transcript, and the ability to speed up and slow down?
Any streaming service we select will have accessibility features and fully follow accessibility guidelines. We will ensure that other foreign language captions can also be uploaded and used within videos.
Will the new tool’s interface be an improvement and user-friendly for both instructors and students?
Any new streaming service will have a modern web interface, which will allow for a more user-friendly system.
Will users need to log in to access videos on the new system?
Because we will ensure LMS integration, students will need to log in to Sakai but then will have full access to the new system.
Will the new service account for slower internet speeds for those who previously experienced lags or loading issues in Video 47?
We will ensure the new service automatically creates different video types and sizes to allow for students with different internet speeds and devices to view the content.

Please note that we must use legally purchased copies of the videos you wish to add to Video 47 or its replacement. We cannot use duplicates or rental copies, and we cannot use content from streaming services (e.g., Netflix). See Copyright at the Claremont Colleges. The Claremont Colleges Library is very helpful in acquiring legal copies of videos for faculty course use, so please reach out to them if you need to make a request.
