Canvas

Canvas is a learning management system (LMS) available to Pomona College faculty.

Teaching with Canvas

Pomona College is currently piloting Canvas as an alternative to Sakai with the aim of exploring its potential as an effective LMS for the institution. Starting Fall 2023 all courses at Pomona will be available in Canvas. This offers interested faculty members the opportunity to teach their course(s) using a modern and feature-rich platform to enhance their teaching methods and foster meaningful engagement with their students. Additionally, the availability of the Canvas mobile app enables both faculty and students to seamlessly interact with their courses and stay connected while on the go.

Get Started

To log in, go to Canvas, and select Pomona College as the home institution from the list. You will be taken to Pomona’s single-sign on page; enter your username and password. Non-Pomona users will need to log in using their home institutions Canvas login link (see Helpful Resources section below).

Your Dashboard–where you’ll come to find courses you’ve marked as favorites, and a sidebar with upcoming events–will greet you once you’re logged in. Navigate to “Courses” to locate your full course list.

If you’re feeling a little lost, no worries! The “Help” tab displays helpful resources like Canvas Guides, a welcome tour, a feature to directly submit questions to your instructor, and a link redirecting you to the Pomona Service Desk’s ticketing system.
