Preparing Documents for Hypothesis
September 30, 2020 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Andrew Wilson is the Director of Research Computing and Digital Scholarship in ITS at Pomona College. Andrew will discuss the basics of Optical character recognition (OCR), how to run it on your documents and some of the pitfall and problems you might encounter. Optical character recognition (OCR) is a method of digitally converting images of typed, handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded text, whether from a scanned document or a photo of a document. OCR provides a means to make scanned documents and articles searchable by converting them to searchable PDFs. This process is a necessary step for some articles when preparing them for used in Hypothes.is.
