Copyright & Hypothesis

Jennifer Beamer is the Scholarly Communications Librarian at The Claremont Colleges Library, and the resident expert on Copyright and Fair Use of Library Materials. She will discuss the kinds and amounts of materials that you can use for annotation with Hypothesis within the Sakai platform.

Under Fair Use legislation and the Teach Act, instructors can provide reasonable portions of materials as long as the materials are being used in certain ways. However, limitations on the ways in materials are sometimes licensed and made available to the libraries by publishers sometimes make the process of getting materials into Sakai, extremely complex. Jennifer will give practical advise on how to get the materials you need, and lead participants in a discussion about the legal uses of materials around copyrighted materials, Hypothes.is and Sakai.
